Bringing in some new air this year

Taking one of the ideas that emerged from the Domestic Departures workshop and moving it one step further. The laundry line and all it implicates socially, economically, and personally came into focus when I was In LA. Engaging with the public and with other artists came naturally.

(Imagine a plain desk, stack of index cards turned down on the desk, plain tin of #2 yellow pencils, plain chair, clear bin to right of desk. Read below when seated in chair):

Airing dirty laundry
-an exchange-

Guidelines
-Take the top card from the stack and turn it over.
-Using one of the pencils provided, please complete the phrase
on the card.*
-Place completed card in slot to right of desk.**
-Keep pencil as exchange.

*The participant is asked to contemplate the potential implications, both literal and metaphoric, of “airing one’s dirty laundry” in relation to notions of the Domestic before completing the phrase on the card.

**Please note the completed phrases will be embroidered onto white bed sheets to be hung from laundry lines in public spaces. If particular thread color or text size is desired, the participant is kindly asked to indicate it on their completed card.

The interesting thing is the pencils will be intervened on with the phrase "Do No Harm". Thinking about testing, "standardized testing", rules, fitting in, "measuring up", etc.

I'd also like to translate this potential exchange into Spanish as well.
Still a work in progress, but one step closer to becoming realized.
